Why Should Business Owners Use Social Media to Market?

It’s hard- if not impossible- to not be on social media. The same goes for big brands. Having a business profile is the new norm and why not become a professional at it. Here are three reasons why business owners should market their business on social media.
1: Everyone and their Mother is on Social Media
Here are some user statistics
- Facebook: 2.1 billion monthly active users
- Facebook Messenger: 1.3 billion monthly active users
- Instagram: 800 million monthly active users
- Twitter: 330 million monthly active users
- Youtube: 1 billion monthly active users
As you can see, the active users are in the millions and for some the numbers are in the billion. In the infographic above, it describes the what occurs on Facebook on average with a random minute of the day. There are 3 million likes, 50,000 links shared, 500 accounts added, 100,000 friend request, and 150,000 messages sent. With numbers like this, it’ll be foolish to not have a social media presence.
2. Low Cost
The infographic above describes a case study of the cost to reach 1,000 individuals on various marketing channels. It shows that it takes $0.25 dollars to get 1,000 people to view the advertisement. This is a huge differences as if a business owner would advertise through Newspaper or Cable Tv.
3. A Brand’s Followers is More Likely to Make a Purchase From Them
According to the infographic above, 51% of all Facebook users and 64% of 64% of all Twitter users are more likely to buy from a brand that they follow. Like any other rational person, this makes sense. In this new era of technology, brands are able to build trust and loyalty through their social media platform.
This is especially true for influencers. As a Millennial that spent his teen years watching vloggers, I am super attracted to seeing an influencer broadcast a brand on Instagram or Snapchat. I would buy from them in a heartbeat because I know them on a very personal level and because they have a history of being authentic.
These are just a few reason why small business owners should be on social media. Technology has changed the way marketers advertise and small business owners should not be out for the count. Mobile devices allows individuals to stay connect at all times and allows marketing very cost efficient. And finally, people are more likely to buy from a brand that they follow.
Do you agree with these three reasons? What are the advantages or disadvantages of being a business owners and using social media to market it?
